Malaysian Unity: Two views

Back to the bad old days or a new dawn for Malaysia? I guess the Royals are struggling with this issue just as much as us commoners.

Tengku Faris: Non-Malays should not seek equality

Kelantan Crown Prince Tengku Faris Petra said today that Malays had given into granting non-Malays citizenship and the latter should therefore not seek equality or special treatment.

He said this during his keynote speech at a forum titled “Malay unity is the core of national unity” organised by the newly formed Barisan Bertindak Perpaduan Melayu in Kuala Lumpur today.

Speaking to a crowd of about 1,000 people, Tengku Faris said the Malay rulers would be an umbrella to foster unity among all Malaysians, based on the Federal Constitution and the Rukun Negara.

“Thus, it is not appropriate for these other ethnic groups to have citizenship, only (later) to seek equality and privileges,” said Tengku Faris, who read from a 11-page prepared text.

However, the crown prince stressed that in an effort to unite the Malays, non-Malays also have rights that must be protected, such as in areas of religion.

As an example, Tengku Faris said non-Malays are allowed to practice their respective religions in peace. They must however do so in accordance with the law and “not be provocative towards Islam”.

“The Malay rulers are the head of the Islamic religion and Malaysia is a Islamic country (negara Islam), not secular. We have our own formula (as a country) which is different from others,” he added, drawing thunderous applause from the crowd.

‘Dominance’

He added that the effort to instil Malay unity and defend Malay special rights does not mean that other races would be ignored.

“In fact, if Malay rights and special privileges are taken care of and is not disturbed, it would ensure national harmony. It does not just benefit the Malays but all ethnic groups,” he said.

bbpm tengku faris 120408 crowdIn his speech, Tengku Faris said the 12th General Election results have shown that the Malays are being “challenged” and thus Malays unity is of the outmost priority.

“The election results have shown that the Malays are disunited and facing other ethnic groups who are more dominant politically and economically,” he said.

As the constitution provides that the Malays are the natives (penduduk asal) of Malaysia, Tengku Faris said every Malay must defend the constitution and Islam and this can only be achieved through Malay unity.

“We have to make an effort to unite. Don’t spilt up. Avoid polemics that can distance us. Ideology (and) having different interpretations does not contribute to Malay unity.

“Discussing about polemics such as Islamic state, secular state, welfare state… confuses the people… Resulting from this confusion, Malays are becoming more disillusioned,” he added. – Malaysiakini, 12 April 2008

His Royal Highness the Regent of Perak, Raja Nazrin :

“Malaysians of all races and religions need to believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have a place under the Malaysian sun.”

With all respect to the Royal Highness, Tengku Faris Petra,

I am a fourth generation Malaysian. When did I sign the agreement on Malay Special rights for citizenship? Am I responsible for my ancestors blunders? Can some one be hanged today for their grandfather’s mistake?
Will my child suffer the same discrimination that I had to go through for unknown reason?
Why not inform the United Nations and let them settle this problem. Tell them Malaysia don’t need “imigrants” who are fourth generation Malaysians and chase all of us legally through United Nations. Let us be refuge. No need to fight or kill each other.

Thank you your Royal Highness for letting us realize where we stand.

    Vijay

My dear fellow Malaysians , I as a Malay and many other Malays belief me, can feel your pain and great despair. It seems the struggle is endless isn’t it but we should never give up. We must indeed move towards a new modern century of genuine respect for diversity and multiculturalism and uncompromised belief in struggling for true equality and justice for all Malaysians.

The rakyat must be made to realize that there is nothing wrong as being claimed by the BN propaganda machine, even by spreading the deceitful language game of “frog-hopping” such as by that Mukhriz idiot in his “Ktemoc” blog, of Anwar & Pakatan takeover of fed govt right now. As through genuinely repentent BN politicians who are jumping ship, in order to correct injustice (the “democratic” election will always be based on fraud) and defeat a fascist and racist dictatorship of Umno/BN! And now even politicizing ridiculously the pig issue as related to Israel?! What the heck man! Some Malays are indeed hopeless idiots and lost causes, as set in examples by their idiot leaders in Umno! But Pakatan must ensure that PAS need to toe the line to the aspirations of both PKR and DAP; of which they’ve been stubbornly defying with ridiculous declarations such as on aspiring irrationally and deceitfully towards forming an Islamic state and harbouring still racial antagonism and religious superiority towards DAP’s leaders and other races.

And this declaration by Pakatan to overtake the Fed Govt is also of good timing and fundamentally necessary especially now that the arrogant Kelantan royalty has come out with the most ridiculous and hateful racist-fascist statement (when would some Malays realize that the words of royalty or Umno leaders are not words of God??!!) ! This’s the kind of ruler that will ensure the Malays remain backward and racist ( instead of forward and progressively modern), as blinded by a deceitful fascist “Ketuanan Melayu” ideology; besides being forever subservient to the Malay elite class of course! And what a joke about Malay unity?! These people should read the articles by the true and rare progressively modern Malay intellectual Dr. Farish Noor! I’m a Malay who found out after being brainwashed for so long under such ideological crap, that there’s no united “Malays” because I actually have no common interest with the fascist, racist, greedy, barbaric, sexist-macho, primitive and unjust Malays such as in Umno’s elite class! The “Malay Unity” now is another ideology dreamed up by a so-called Malay NGO (but actually Umno “NGO”!) to keep ordinary Malays forever enslaved by their greedy and selfish Malay masters!! And these Malay masters should remember, MANY ORDINARY MALAYS ARE NO MORE COWS WITH RINGS IN THEIR NOSES, TO BE PULLED ALL OVER AT THEIR BECKING CALL! THOSE DAYS OF SLAVERY ARE OVER AND WE, ALL THE RAKYAT, NOT JUST MALAYS, NEED TO BE LIBERATED RIGHT NOW FROM THE EVIL FASCIST-RACIST DICTATORSHIP OF UMNO/BN, BY A PAKATAN RAKYAT’S FEDERAL GOVERNMENT! AND THAT’S WHEN I WOULD REGARD THEN, THAT TRUE JUSTICE HAVE FINALLY REACHED MALAYSIA! AND THANK GOD FROM ALL RELIGION, FOR THAT!

    NOOR AZA OTHMAN

    A RAKYAT/MALAYSIAN.
